From Copenhagen to Kolding 🚂 A cozy train ride From Copenhagen to Kolding 🚂
A cozy train ride ended in the small city of Kolding in Jutland today.
First stop: @koldinghus with their Christmas market all over the castle.
They also have a nice permanent exhibition of the Flora Danica porcelain. It's an impressive collection and an interesting story of how it was made. The table shows how it was used at the birthday of king Christian VII, including who sat where!
With Flora Danica, all wild flowers and plants in Danmark are documented with paintings that are true to size and show a part of the plant, often the stem and flower and always the roots. Also when it's a mushroom or moss! The plants are documented in books and on the big porcelain set, which is exhibited here.
In the book the pretty plants were painted first and the mushrooms and other less aesthetically pleasing plants were saved for last. In the porcelain set they are all just mixed!

Next up: Museum @trapholt with modern art and design pieces.
A pleasant building to walk around in, with exhibitions that also offer activities in between.

All in all, a good little day trip!

A different ✨ cultural experience ✨ today with A different ✨ cultural experience ✨ today with a visit to the Royal Theatre, @kglteater here in Copenhagen. Throughout december you can see the Nutcracker there. A beautifully performed ballet that helps you get into the Christmas spirit.
If you have never been to a ballet before, this could be a nice place to start. The story is told very clearly through dance, costumes and the decor. That makes it easy to follow! And the music is recognizable.

Oh, and if you can't find anyone to join you to the ballet, it's actually also really nice to go alone!

Vilhelm Lundstrøm - Rethinking Colour and Shape a Vilhelm Lundstrøm - Rethinking Colour and Shape at @ordrupgaard
Just outside of Copenhagen there is this cozy museum called Ordrupgaard. The museum is in an old villa but has a newer building by the amazing architect Zaha Hadid. The combination of the modern and older architecture creates an original museum experience, starting at the temporary exhibition of Vilhelm Lundstrøm. The artist is known for painting female nudes and cubistic stillifes in complimentary colour combinations. A good way to add some colour to your day when it's grey outside!

Go visit the exhibition of the Red Studio at @smkmuseum ❤️

All the works in the exhibition around the painting of the Red Studio, are painted in the painting of the Red Studio!
Can you connect the real painting or sculpture to the one in the painting of the studio?
All works are by Matisse and he was either still working on them or had them stored in his working studio when he was painting the Red Studio.
Some of the works were only finished after the Red Studio was painted, which explains the differences in colour of them.

Some more words on Kulturnat. I visited Kunsthal Some more words on Kulturnat.

I visited Kunsthal Charlottenborg, SMK and Hirschsprungske Samling and here is a short review.

@kunsthalcharlottenborg
I often find Kunsthal Charlottenborg a bit intimidating with the contemporary artworks, accompanied by complex texts. The nice thing about kulturnat is that an exhibition like that can become more accessible, because of a workshop related to it. I took part in the weaving workshop, where you could use a variety of materials and not only yarn, similar to the works in Honey Biba Beckerlee’s exhibition, Digital Matters.
I would like to go back to spend some more time on watching the videoworks of Cao Fei! The bit that I saw was entertaining, but I can imagine that the full video tells an interesting story.
When I saw the pulverised engine by Roger Hiorns, I couldn't help but laugh. It reminded me of a scene in The Square, where a cleaner accidentally destroys an artwork that consists of small piles of dust (picture 5). Maybe the scene was inspired by this piece from 2008?

@smkmuseum
At SMK I (like most guests) only visited the new exhibition about Matisse's Red Studio. I wasn't sure what to expect, since I felt like it wouldn't be so special, "I had seen Matisse before". With that in mind, it really surprised me how nice this exhibition was. Perhaps the contrast of the complex contemporary works to the more accessible figurative paintings of Matisse enhanced this surprise. As I came into the first room, a guided tour just started where the guide gave an introduction on Matisse and the history of the painting of the Red Studio. Matisse painted his own studio, so the works in it are actual paintings and sculptures by him - all of them are present in the exhibition! The way one could look at the painting and look around the room to recognize the objects, made it fun. This is also a good way to practice looking at a painting for a longer period of time, to see what you can recognise in it and how you can interpret it.
The exhibition continued with a video and some more rooms that told more about the history of the Red Studio.
Can definitely recommend visiting this!

Visited the Danish Architecture Center to check ou Visited the Danish Architecture Center to check out the exhibition "Women in Architecture"
I am very interested in this topic and it was interesting to see it from different perspectives at DAC. There was a lot to read, watch and listen, a bit too much to take it all in in one visit, so I guess I should go back one day!

At the same time, people were running half a marathon in Copenhagen, which passed through (under) the DAC building. This added to the already nice views and atmosphere of Copenhagen and.
